[Here starts what must have been a terrible year in Wimpole. The register entries from February 1615 record 33 burials in 12 months, including the burial of Sir Thomas Chicheley, the Lord of the Manor, at the early age of 38. It is assumed that the cause of the deaths was a local outbreak of contagious fever or the plague, but I have been unable to find any confirming references. Orwell appears to have escaped unscathed but Arrington, a much smaller parish, suffered 14 deaths, nine of which occurred during March, April and May.]
