Photograph Archive A number of early photographs of Wimpole can be found in the Wimpole Photograph Archive. It is planned that around 200 photographs will eventually be indexed and available in full screen resolution. The archive has been fully integrated with this website and every page has a link back to the main Wimpole site index page. All Archive photographs are enlarged screen displays from indexed 'thumb nail' images and there are 75+ images currently available. I am actively looking to enlarge the collection and loans of suitable early photographs of Wimpole (preferably 1890 to 1950) would be greatly appreciated. Please phone 01223 208202 or e-mail Steve Odell with details. |

Police Harston Beat: Mobile phone for non-urgent messages only: 07740 734 977. E-mail: John.Sutton@cambs.police.uk Wimpole is in the Sawston
Sector. The Area Commander is Inspector Steve Maycock and the Community Officer responsible for Wimpole is Sergeant Steve Poppitt. "1 September 2002: I am writing to advise you that the police station site in Sawston is about to be redeveloped with a new police station and a number of new private houses. As from Thursday 5th September 2002 Sawston Police Station will close and all staff, vehicles and equipment will be relocated to temporary accommodation at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. Officers will patrol from, and respond to incidents, crimes and calls for service from the temporary police station in exactly the same way as at present. Unfortunately we will have no facility to deal with callers to the temporary police station, instead we will be making extensive use of our new mobile police station. I will be able to publicise where and when the mobile station will be used in due course. The postal address of the temporary police station will be: Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Sawston Sector, Building 288, Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridge CB2 4QR. The telephone number will remain exactly the same as now - 01223 358966 as will any e-mail addresses that you use to contact officers in Sawston Sector. The new police station should be available in about 12 months time, and as soon as there is any news on our moving in I will make this information available. If you have any questions or comments to make about the move or the redevelopment of the police station site please contact me directly." Yours sincerely Emergency calls should be made on 999 or 112. If you see anything suspicious in the parish, please ring Parkside Police Station on 01223 358966 and then contact your village Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators. All reported information is recorded at Parkside and gets cross referenced with reports received from the surrounding villages. Read the latest issues of "The Sawston Beat" - the local police newsletter edited by Pc John Sutton, Wimpole's Community Beat Officer. The newsletter includes facts and figures on local village crime, and has regular features on aspects of policing in the area. |
